more-inSeveral lakes and tanks falling under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation jurisdiction would be restored in the coming days if the efforts launched by the State government is any indication. The Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department has taken up protection and restoration of 40 water bodies under the HMDA limits with a massive amount of ₹287.9 crore. These 40 water bodies form part of the 185 water bodies surrounding the twin cities’ jurisdiction that were non-existent following rampant encroachments over the years, Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Mr. Rama Rao said, apart from encroachment of the lakes and nalas, discharge of industrial effluents had turned out to be a bane for water bodies in the city. The government was actively considering deputing an IAS officer for monitoring restoration of lakes and Musi river cleaning in coordination with the departments concerned, he added.
