India trying to sell coal to Bangladesh, officials say

The country's Coal Secretary Anil Swarup told mediapersons that the public sector Coal India Limited (CIL) is already negotiating with Bangladesh power companies. Coal India subsidiaries - Bharat Coking Coal and North Eastern Coalfields - are likely to supply coal to the Bangladesh power companies. "The coal produced by CIL is likely to be cheaper than those supplied by Indonesia," said a CIL official. He claimed that the two CIL subsidiaries produced high quality fuel, which can compete with Indonesian coal. Coal India's output grew 8.5 per cent to 536 million tonnes in the last financial year.
