He was snapping, snarling, batting brilliantly, whipping up the crowd and remonstrating with the umpires as only an Indian captain can. It is fair to say the real Virat Kohli stood up as his side bulldozed their way towards a crushing second Test victory. No more Mr Nice Guy now, not with a series against England and his own reputation on the line. He is much more at home when he is leading India aggressively and pushing the boundaries of acceptable behaviour to their limits. Yes, by all cricketing logic, Root was out lbw but that does not excuse unacceptable behaviour by Kohli.
