India’s Marine Fish Stock Deemed Healthy and Sustainable, According to Study


A recent study conducted by the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) indicates that India’s marine fish stock is healthy and sustainable. The study, titled ‘Marine Fish Stock Status of India 2022’, assessed 135 fish stocks, of which 91.1% were found to be healthy. Additionally, the study revealed a significant reduction in unsustainable practices, with only 4.4% of the fish stocks facing overfishing. Ultimately, the study’s results are anticipated to significantly bolster India’s seafood exports. Overall, India’s marine fish stocks are in a healthy state, and the country’s efforts towards sustainability have proven successful.
