There is consternation among mental health services about the impact that the second lockdown is having on people's mental health - particularly as it is playing out in the colder, darker winter months. Even before the pandemic, child and adult mental health services were under significant strain. And Covid-19 also had a major impact on those who need acute mental health services. The Mental Health Commission prepared a report for the Government which "observed" that dormitory-style accommodation for mental health services may have spread Covid-19. "The cold, hard truth is that people with serious mental illness are reliant on a fragile mental health service."
