Hurricane Irma wreaked devastation across huge swathes of the Caribbean before making landfall in Florida yesterday. The storm made landfall on Cudjoe Key in the Florida Keys, a chain of low-lying islands off the tip of the state that were overwhelmed by the sea. As it passed over land and pummelled the city of Naples on Florida’s west coast last night, Irma lost some of its ferocity and was downgraded to a category 2 hurricane.
