Young, aggressive and dull whitish Sultan is most likely to fill the vacuum created by the death of Shaktiman in Uttarakhand, SSP Dehradun Sadanand Date said on Saturday. Sultan is part of the new horse recruits to the mounted police unit. Even amputation and surgical replacement couldn’t save the horse, whose death after a month had triggered outrage across the country. “We hope his height and physical fitness will be able to bring the department out of its subdued mourning after Shaktiman’s death,” said Date. The state’s mounted police unit had been looking for a right replacement after Shaktiman died following fatal injuries in his hind limb during a March 14 Bharatiya Janata Party rally.
