I can’t say I’m surprised to learn that a former Scottish Labour leader chose to vote for the near-identical SNP at a previous election. Following a series of protests where protestors were climbing on war memorials, the UK Government will now make this a specific public order offence. My proposed members bill – which launched in September – is designed to prevent the disgraceful attacks on war memorials that have been rising over the last decade. Currently, the desecration of war memorials is deemed as serious as vandalising something like a lamppost. The fact that vandals are let off the hook – with the help of the SNP turning a blind eye – is utterly shameful.
