KUCHING: More illegal gambling den operators as well as suspected gamblers have been arrested as police intensify operations to stamp out such activities in Sarawak. Last week, police conducted 20 raids and netted 39 people during a week-long operation, which ended yesterday (Sept 24). The raiding party also seized more than RM5,000 and several gambling paraphernalia from 16 illegal lottery (4D) peddlers and four cyber gambling centres statewide. “Although many irresponsible quarters were aware that police have been conducting routine crackdowns on illegal gambling dens weekly, they still operate their businesses. “I believe that they (illegal gambling den operators) have conducted a risk-benefit analysis and found that the benefits outweigh the risks,” Dev said.
