A statement by his chief press secretary, Enyinnaya Appolos, said Nigerians should emulate Ekwueme’s life of honest service to God and humanity. The south east zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) described Ekwueme’s death as a big blow to the party and nation’s democracy.In a statement, the national vice chairman of the party Chief Austin, noted that the deceased was a founder of the PDP and suffered greatly to entrench democracy in the country. “The late elder statesman would be remembered for his selfless service to his father land and philanthropic activities. The Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA) candidate, Godwin Ezeemo, who hails from the same Aguata Local Government with Ekwueme, said: “He was a community developer, he inspired me in no small way. His Akulue-uno principle, deep sense of patriotism, philanthropy and excellence in service will continue to serve as a reference point for us.”
