The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255 [1-800-273-TALK]) has designated the Twitter hashtag “#BeThe1To” as its message for suicide prevention. OKAY, LET’S TALK ABOUT SUICIDE PREVENTION NOWOne of the most damaging myths about suicide out there (in my opinion) is this: If we don’t talk about it, it won’t happen. Ninety percent of people who commit suicide suffer from a mental illness (but certainly not everyone with a mental illness attempts suicide). The good news is that there are effective treatments for every mental illness out there. In fact, many people who love someone with a mental illness go to therapy themselves to help them deal.
