Winnipeg’s new Western Hockey League team already has its first victory, some six months before it hits the ice. The Winnipeg Ice won the WHL’s draft lottery on Wednesday and will move up one spot to pick first in this year’s bantam draft. It chose second overall in 2017, first overall after a last-place finish in 2016. The Prince George Cougars will get the second pick, Saskatoon the third. Owned by a Winnipegger, the Ice franchise is relocating from Cranbrook, B.C., next season.
