KUALA LUMPUR: Police have yet to confirm whether the Malaysian reportedly caught at Maluso port by Philippine authorities is a militant. Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has denied news reports that the man, who hails from Kelantan, is a bomb expert. “Through the intelligence that we have gathered, he is just a student – not a bomb expert. “He could be (in the Philippines just) to spread Islam, or to learn more about Islam,” Khalid said, adding that police are still investigating his motive for being in the southern Philippines. He said the military is checking if the suspect was training Abu Sayyaf militants to make bombs.
