THE Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) has denounced the killing of the lawyer of an alleged “top” drug lord in Iloilo province, saying lawyers should never be persecuted for doing their jobs. Romero was rushed by emergency responders to the Roxas Memorial Provincial hospital but was declared dead at 1:15 p.m. The IBP president said Romero was one of many lawyers who had drug lords for clients. “Lawyers must not be identified with their clients’ alleged offenses — be they murder, rape, or manifold violations of the Anti Drug Act. Last February, Jonah Ungab who was the lawyer of suspected drug lord Kerwin Espinosa was killed in Cebu City.
