The child tabla player in the Wah Taj ad of 1990, starring Ustad Zakir Hussain, is making waves on the Indian and international music scene. The tabla virtuoso, Aditya Kalyanpur, adroitly manages both. He talks to us about not distinguishing between genres, and training under Ustad Allah Rakha Khan. When he turned 11, Aditya was called to audition for the Wah Taj commercial with Ustad Zakir Hussain, who had been his inspiration even before the ad. “I had to give a screen test but since I was good enough to play with Ustad Zakir, I was selected,” he says.
