During his 2016 campaign tour, Mr Mahama, as the incumbent president promised an ultra-modern market for the people of Mankessim if he were retained in office. He said the market will be the best in West Africa and will be named the Mankessim market. Mr Mahama said at the time that the market will have a modern lorry park, but the NDC lost power in the 2016 election. Speaking to the market women as part of his two-day tour of the region on Thursday, 11 April 2019, Mr Mahama said he had not forgotten his promise.
