Hurricane Lane Dumps Rain on Hawaii

Hurricane Lane continued to lash Hawaii with heavy rain Friday, causing flooding, landslides and power outages for thousands. But Friday has also brought welcome news for the islands as winds slowed and the hurricane was downgraded to a Category 2 storm, a less severe designation. The hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 105 miles an hour, has already dumped more than 30 inches of rain on parts of the Big Island. As much as 40 inches of rain could fall on some locations, according to the National Weather Service.
