Worth around Tk1 crore, the trees of the orchards, belonging to 20 farmers, were cut down indiscriminately in the dead of night on Wednesday. Police, visiting the scene on Saturday, said they were considering the use of the latest technology available to them to apprehend the culprits. He said last year he had a bumper yield from his mango orchard by using a grafting technique whereby the plants would begin bearing fruit from the second year onward. When contacted, Mizanur Rahman, in-charge of Shewardah Police camp in Jhikargachha, said: “We have visited the site. We are now considering using the latest tracking technology available to us to catch the people responsible.”
