Hundreds executed without trial in DRCFrom JEAN KASSONGO in Kinshasa, DRCKINSHASA, (CAJ News) – STATE agents have killed more than 230 civilians is extra-judicial executions in the Democratic Republic of Congo since the beginning of the year as the worsening political crisis coincides with escalating violations. The Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC) soldiers were responsible for 183 extrajudicial executions – including 71 children and five women – accounting for more than half (56%) of the total number of extrajudicial executions in February. These were mainly in Central Kasaï Province (151 victims, including 60 children), Tanganyika (20 victims including five women and eight children), North Kivu (10 victims including one child) and Haut-Uélé Minor). In total, UNJHRO documented 461 human rights violations throughout the DRC, an increase from January 2017, during which 427 violations were documented. State agents were responsible for nearly 48% of the violations documented during the month, equaling 219 violations.
