The demonstration was organized in front of the National Museum in Dhaka’s Shahbag, around 11am on Thursday. Speakers at the protest said, on February 24, the High Court banned any and all stone extraction near the Sangu and Matamuhuri Rivers, and locals hill streams of Bandarban. The ruling was issued in an effort to preserve the ecological balance and natural beauty of the district. Directly disregarding the ruling, unethical businessmen continue to extract stones and sand from these sites, irreversibly endangering nature’s ecological balance.
