Heavy downpour in the catchment areas of Odisha for the last couple of days under the influence of the extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani has turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the farmers of the district as it has been bringing huge inflows into the Vamsadhara. The Gotta barrage, which was a parched patch a few days ago, is now filled to the brim. Irrigation SE M. Surender Reddy said the department released 6,455 cusecs from the barrage on Saturday as the inflows still continued. Chakradhar Babu constituted 70 teams for enumeration of crop damage in Uddanam and other parts of the district. People urged them to arrange for payment of enhanced compensation as Cyclone Fani dealt them another blow after Cyclone Titli in October last.
