Mata finished neatly, latching onto Ashley Young’s through ball, but referee Kevin Friend decided he wanted a second opinion on the goal as he felt it may have been offside. However, VAR produced a comical image with offside lines that were not even straight and Friend was forced to disallow Mata’s goal. BT Sport displayed a picture at half-time of what VAR official Neil Swarbrick should have come up with and it appears Mata may have been onside! This is what a straight line looks like…Asked about the incident, BT Sport pundit Robbie Savage said: ‘That was a shambles, offside should only be overturned if it is clear and obvious.
