During a January speech, the CEO and president of the American Petroleum Institute declared that stopping state climate lawsuits is among the trade group’s top priority for 2026. Lawmakers in Oklahoma and Utah have introduced bills in their respective legislatures that would bar most civil suits against oil companies.
