A go-ahead on Trans Mountain would not only have short-term effects on B.C.’s construction industry. Because of the pipeline’s path, much of the construction work would take place in British Columbia — amounting to thousands of building jobs. Notley and Kenney have both committed to aggressively shepherding the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project through the federal approval process. The Alberta government argued in court that the proposed legislation is specifically targeting Trans Mountain and would significantly impact it. While all five main parties support the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project, they have different approaches to Indigenous rights.
