In the original Star Wars movie, the Rebellion had built a base to hide away from the Empire on a jungle-covered moon orbiting a gas giant named Yavin. When I went off to college, I still had a slight obsession with Star Wars, but I had decided that my future lay in dirt not the stars. The mythic ruins of the Star Wars universe tell a story in of themselves. Archaeology and ancient ruins are sprinkled throughout science fiction to bring credence and authenticity to the mythmaking process. My 19-month old daughter will not be old enough to watch Star Wars, Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker when it debuts in theaters this coming December, and so she will not have the same childhood relationship with Star Wars that I did.
