The monthly Halifax house price index showed that annual growth slowed to 5.1 per cent in February from 5.7 per cent in January, the lowest level since July 2013 and below expectations of 5.3 per cent. On a monthly basis, house prices rose by 0.1 per cent between January and February on a seasonally adjusted basis, slower than the 0.4 per cent rise expected and taking the average price of a home in the UK to £219,949.
