The fire on Woodend Rd, in Woodend north of Christchurch, was reported about 12.45am on Saturday. A Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fenz) spokesman said authorities initially thought people may have been inside the house, but later confirmed no-one was home when the fire broke out. The single-storey house was fully ablaze when firefighters from Woodend station arrived.
