House panel on land Bill seeks eighth extension

Chairman of the committee S S Ahluwalia was recently appointed a Union minister of state, leaving a vacancy at the top. In his letter to the Lok Sabha, Singh wrote: “Pursuant to the reminders issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, categorical replies from many state governments/UT administrations are still awaited…. HAVING BEEN given seven extensions so far, the joint committee on the land acquisition Bill has sought another extension — till the last day of the Winter Session this year — to submit its report on the Bill. As per the last extension granted, the Joint Committee on Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015 was required to present its report by July 22. The department of land resources, which has not furnished categorical information with respect to Union ministries/departments so far, has also been reminded to furnish the requisite data/information.”
