Fire investigator John Smalls, left, and senior firefighter Waka Miller believe that the cause of a Dublin St house fire on Saturday morning might have been a lithium ion battery. A house has been destroyed in a fire on Saturday morning that was so severe the floor had been burnt through to the earth. Fire and Emergency New Zealand was called to the house in Dublin St, Invercargill, about 2am. He thought the fire had started in the lounge, at the rear end of the house. Invercargill Fire Station officer Daniel Middlemiss said the fire was well involved and cracked windows and meltic plastics at the neighbouring property.
