“While the wage subsidy has been good for keeping people in their jobs, owners are hanging on and dipping into their personal funds. With the exception of the tourism and aviation sectors, hospitality businesses have been hardest hit by the lockdown. Like the rest of us, hospitality businesses were only given 15 hours to get ready for level 3 and 2. Despite the obvious turmoil facing the industry, the Government has offered no targeted support for hospitality operators. While alert levels are relaxed next week, Auckland hospitality businesses reliant on bustling crowds, like nightclubs and late-night bars, won’t be able to open at capacity.
