But the U.S. remains the epicenter of the business jet market, and analysts say the company needs to do a better job here. “[HondaJet] is a beautifully done airplane, the quality is unmatched in that segment,” says business aviation forecaster Rolland Vincent. The company delivered 43 HondaJets in 2017, beating out the Cessna Citation M2 for the most in the small business jet class. Business travel there tends to be between major cities — Hong Kong to Beijing or Bangkok to Shanghai — covering longer distances than the HondaJet’s range, says David Dixon, president of the business aircraft brokerage Jetcraft Asia. With a larger aircraft, Vincent believes Honda would have to stop selling through dealerships.
