Education Minister Chris Hipkins was welcomed at Invercargill airport this morning by a haka and a protest against his plans to merge the country's polytechnics and institutes of technology. Several people at the airport were also holding the banners up as Hipkins faced the haka. Invercargill Mayor Tim Shadbolt was at the airport to welcome Mr Hipkins.
