Representative Nancy Pelosi, Democrat of California, was elected speaker. To win back the gavel, Ms. Pelosi diffused a rebellion in her caucus. She ultimately consented to a series of agreements to secure enough support, including limiting herself to four years as speaker. But on Thursday, there were still some dissenters within her Democratic ranks who did not vote for Ms. Pelosi. (Mr. Lamb won a special election last year; this will be his first full House term.)
