Herdsmen: Buhari’s admission

After living in denial for years, the president indicated that the herdsmen were not the “countrymen” whom he had admonished the governor of Benue State and, by implication, others to tolerate and accommodate. Before now, the narrative from the Presidency had trashed any suggestion that the herdsmen were the aggressors in the murderous bloody skirmishes between farmers and herdsmen in the country. But during his recent encounter with the Archbishop of Canterbury, the president admitted that the herdsmen, trained in Libya, were the culprits. The admission means a complete vindication for the farmers and others who had suffered untold aggression at the hands of the rampaging foreigners who exploited the security lapses in the country. Anything less will cast a slur on the genuineness of the admission made by President Buhari to the Archbishop of Canterbury and reduce it to mere political posturing for election purposes.
