A tramper was rescued from the Kaimanawa Forest Park on Friday afternoon (file photo). Two trampers had to be airlifted to safety late Friday after getting into difficulty in central North Island terrain, prompting a police safety plea. One hiker was found deep within the Kaimanawa Forest Park and the other was located on Mount Tauhara, east of Taupō. With warming weather approaching, more people are expected to explore the country's mountain and bush tracks, Sergeant Shane McNally of Taupō Police said. Whether it's a day's walk or a multi-day hike, trampers should be prepared for all weather conditions, carry the correct gear, and stick to their plans, McNally said.
