Three fire trucks and a helicopter were sent to the fire in Otaua (File photo). Firefighters called in a helicopter on Saturday to tackle a blaze in rugged Far North terrain. Part of the scrub fire near Mataraua Rd south of Kaikohe was on a vertical face, so the chopper with a monsoon bucket was sent. One FENZ crew was still at the scene at 6.49pm but by then the helicopter was no longer needed. FENZ did not have its own helicopter assets but was able to call in choppers from contractors when needed.
