The government will consider to put a heavier penalty for violating social distancing rulesChief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said the government will consider to raise penalty for those who violated the social distancing measures. Her comment came as the city recorded 114 new Covid-19 cases today, according to sources, the highest daily increase in the fourth wave of outbreak. Currently, those who violate the mandatory mask order and four-people public gatherings rule are subject to a fixed HK$2,000 penalty. Speaking in a TV program today, Lam said the current penalty seem not deterrent enough and the government will consider to make the penalty heavier.
