The government will make an announcement tomorrow to request care home staffs to take the virus test by December 14Care homes staff will be required to take the Covid-19 test within two weeks by December 14, or they may be fined or barred from going to work, Secretary for Labour and Welfare Law Chi-kwong said. Care homes staff can either get free tests at community testing centres set up by the government, or they can take the test at private labs. Those who refused to take the test will be fined, and may not be allowed to go to work, Law said. “Although care home staff aren’t a high-risk group, but if they get infected and transmit the virus to residents who are physically weak, the consequences can be extremely serious,” he said. He said the government is looking for more facilities for testing, or to send out more sample-collecting vans to make testing more convenient for staff.
