Heat warning issued for Toronto as forecast tops 31 C

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Toronto with temperatures expected to hit 31 C Tuesday and Wednesday — and they could possibly climb even higher. The agency said it issues heat warnings when very high temperatures or humidity conditions could lead to a greater risk of heat illnesses, such as heatstroke or heat exhaustion. Tuesday's overnight low will drop to 21 C, the agency says, which will provide little relief from the heat. Environment Canada urged Toronto residents to drink plenty of liquid — especially water — before feeling thirsty, which will decrease the risk of dehydration. Environment Canada said the "heat episode" will mainly affect Ontario's Golden Horseshoe area, which stretches from Niagara Falls to Oshawa.
