KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry is working to increase the number of oncologists in the country, as the number of cancer cases in the country keeps on rising. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the aim was to have about 300 oncologists, or one oncologist for every 100,000 people. Dr Dzulkefly visits the exhibition on cancer that was setup at KL Sentral. The most common cancer in the country was breast cancer (19%), colorectal cancer (13.5%) and lung cancer (9.8%). According to the registry, a total of 115,238 new cancer cases were registered between 2012-2016, compared to 103,507 cases between 2007-2011.
