CALGARY — Hayley Wickenheiser is accustomed to people doubting her ability to pull off the seemingly impossible. Then, at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, she registered five points in five games skating on a broken foot. Wickenheiser now is 38 and coming off surgery in February 2015 to have a metal plate and eight screws installed in that bothersome left paw. So she is hardly shocked by whispers she might not make it to the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. “It’s just the nature of the beast,” the six-time Olympian said with a sigh Friday before signing autographs for a gaggle of preteens at the seventh-annual Canadian Tire Wickenheiser Female World Hockey Festival.
