Soul singer Sharon Jones, who came to fame late in life with her band The Dap Kings, has died at age 60. An announcement posted on the band’s website read: “We are deeply saddened to announce that Sharon Jones has passed away after a heroic battle against pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones, including the Dap-Kings.”According to Rolling Stone, Jones was diagnosed with stage two pancreatic cancer in 2013, but went into remission nine months later. The cancer returned in 2015, with tumours spreading to her lung, liver and lymph nodes. She returned as a backup singer for soul label Desco Records in the ’90s and recorded her debut album Dap-Dippin’ With the Dap Kings, in 2002.
