Hamilton City Council looks for debt wiggle room


More than 9000 people are expected to be living in Hamilton's Peacocke area within the next decade. The exercise could see up to $120 million of Government cash transferred into an “off-balance sheet structure” and give the council more wiggle room when it comes to debt. In 2017, the city council secured a $180.3m 10-year interest-free loan from the Government and $110.1m in Waka Kotahi NZTA subsidies.
