The Manawatū Community Law Centre must pay a former staff member $6000 after it breached her privacy during an employment dispute. The Manawatū Community Law Centre has been ordered to pay compensation to a former employee for “interfering with her privacy”. The Human Rights Tribunal has ruled the centre rode roughshod over the privacy rights of receptionist and information officer Alisha Cook during an employment dispute. The centre argued it wasn't unreasonable for it to re-use the privacy waiver from May 2016. Cook told the tribunal the privacy breaches left her feeling vulnerable and that her personal information was sought to belittle her.
