Ratepayers are footing the bill for CBD transformation to the tune of more than $7 million. And with Hamilton City Council putting a halt on the phase out of development contribution remissions, for the time being at least, councillor Garry Mallett said that number could balloon. Currently the council refunds property developers for the development contributions they make in a form of a remission payment. Council figures, Mallett said, show Hamilton ratepayers are subsidising the cost of CBD development. TOM LEE/FAIRFAX NZ Hamilton City councillor Angela O'Leary says the whole development contributions policy needs to be reworked.
