The new horror-thriller, which brings back Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode for the first time since 2002's Halloween: Resurrection, took in an estimated $77.5 million in its opening weekend, according to Box Office Mojo. The movie marked Jamie Lee Curtis' feature film debut, and she would return to the franchise in 1980's Halloween II, 1998's Halloween H20: Halloween 20 Years Later and 2002's Halloween: Resurrection. Next weekend, Halloween will try to defend its box office title by going up against Lionsgate's submarine action-thriller Hunter Killer, starring Gerard Butler, and PureFlix's faith-based drama Indivisible.
