Eyewitnesses confirmed that at least three random shells fell on Mitiga Airport in Tripoli on Friday evening, without causing any human or material damage. The shelling caused only a fire that spread nearby the runway area, forcing the airport authorities to halt air traffic temporarily until the fire was fully extinguished, according to Deputy of Transport Minister, Hisham Boushkiwat. A military source said Khalifa Haftar’s armed groups shelled Mitiga Airport with Grad rockets in retaliation for the participation of the Special Deterrence Force in the fighting alongside GNA forces.
