Secretary-General appoints Yacoub El Hillo of Sudan as Deputy Special Representative for Libya


Secretary-General António Guterres announced today the appointment of Yacoub El Hillo of Sudan as his Deputy Special Representative in Libya, where he will also serve as United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator. Mr. El Hillo brings to the position a wealth of experience in the field and at Headquarters. Since 2016, he has served as Resident Coordinator in Liberia, where he also served until 2018, as Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General in the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). From 2013 to 2016, Mr. El Hillo served as the United Nations Resident Coordinator, Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Syria. Mr. El Hillo holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, he graduated from the University of Khartoum, Sudan, in 1986.
