HSE chief Paul Reid said the hospital consultants were being urged to prescribe biosimilar drugs, which are more cost-effective than branded medicines, where possible. It works in the same way and is a form of hospital treatment for long-term medical conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease and psoriasis. Mr Reid was outlining measures which are being taken by the HSE to reduce its deficit.
