High Performance Sport NZ has begun a process to address a leak of confidential athlete interviews to former national sprint cycling coach Anthony Peden during a Rio Olympics review. Lawyer Mike Heron's review of Cycling NZ's high performance programme found that a HPSNZ staffer identified as the "sprint team reviewer" sent Peden six summaries of interviews with athletes and staff when he shouldn't have. After being told not to share them, the reviewer said he asked Peden not to read them and to delete them. "In getting that balance right, and getting athlete engagement into what's happening, not only within their own sport, but within the high performance system, I believe that can be a competitive advantage.
